How to create a Google account at accounts.google.com (2026)
Start at accounts.google.com, finish phone and recovery options for a personal account, then review security settings.
You want a personal Google account you can sign into yourself long term—for Gmail, Drive, and YouTube—not a shared login someone sold you.
This walkthrough covers official personal Google account signup on accounts.google.com: purpose → email & password → phone verification → recovery email & phone → first sign-in. Steps follow Google Account Help “Create a Google Account” and accounts.google.com/signup.
Before you start
A Google Account spans Gmail, Drive, YouTube, and Android sign-in. Many overseas users register entirely in the browser—use real name and birthday, not shared logins or SMS-farm numbers. This guide is for personal use only, not Apple ID or regional App Store accounts.
Choose personal use
When asked how you will use the account, pick For my personal use. Work or business flows lead to Google Workspace and other official paths.
Email, username, password
Create a new @gmail.com or choose Use your existing email as your Google sign-in. Use a long unique password.
Recovery phone & email
Complete phone verification during signup and add a recovery email. After signup confirm recovery phone at myaccount.google.com/security.

| myaccount.google.com/security | Recovery & 2FA hub | Recovery email & phone |
- Number rejected
- Overused, VoIP, or region mismatch—try your carrier mobile or wait and retry. Do not buy “guaranteed pass” numbers.
- Compare with Microsoft
- Google accounts are separate from Microsoft. For another overseas personal account, see our Microsoft account guide—this is not an Apple ID or App Store regional tutorial.
- Country-specific Google signup?
- This article covers the general personal path. For US-focused notes see US Google account signup; all still start at accounts.google.com.
Trust accounts.google.com and myaccount.google.com only. “No phone” or “guaranteed pass” services risk suspension.

Questions
Must I pick personal use?
For everyday Gmail and consumer Google services, yes. Google Workspace admin signup is a different official path.
Can I skip phone verification?
Most new accounts cannot. Use a number you control—not a third-party SMS service.
Recovery email and recovery phone?
Both help with password reset and new-device challenges. Keep them current at myaccount.google.com/security.
Is this about Apple ID?
No. Apple ID lives at appleid.apple.com. This guide is Google personal accounts only—we do not duplicate another regional Apple ID article here.
Why mention a temporary meeting tool?
No product tie. To walk someone through setup remotely, see temporary meeting tools.
